Description

For film collectors and historians, here is a unique documentary, from 1976, containing five of the eight original Vitaphone shorts distributed for motion picture exhibition during the 1920s.  The program is introduced by Will Hays (also using original Vitaphone footage), who gives a brief explanation of the process, in words and pictures. Then, the reel contains original Vitaphone shorts, with sound, in their entirety.  Included here are:
"Overture Tennahauser"-performed by the NY Philharmonic
"Humoresque" and "Gavotte," performed by Mischa Elman
"His Pastimes," performed by Roy Smeck on guitar, ukulele, mouth organ, and banjo
"Vesti De La Giubba," performed by Giovanni Martinelli of the NY Metropolitan Opera
"La Fiesta" performed by Anna Case supported by The Cansinos, The Metropolitan Opera Chorus, and the Vitaphone Orchestra.
While the opening segment states that this reel contains six originally shorts, only five are actually included in the program.
This used 16mm black and white and sound print is mounted on a 1600' reel, and offers terrific picture and sound.
