1849 DOUBLE EAGLE DOLLAR TRIAL COIN PROOF LUCKY MONEY
1849 Liberty Head Double Eagle Trial
Now you have the opportunity to own an extraordinary
24k gold-layered trial of a new dollar coin featuring the exquisite eagle design found on the reverse of the very first gold piece ever struck.
The U.S. Mint produced only one gold double eagle in 1849 to be presented as a pattern coin for future gold double eagles.
That sole existing specimen now resides in the Smithsonian Institution and is estimated to be worth to million.
Designed by James B. Longacre, the Liberty Head Double Eagle features a left facing Liberty, her hair bundled and secured with a beaded tie, with a few loose curls cascading down her neck.
She is encircled by thirteen six-point stars. On the reverse, a left-facing heraldic eagle appears, wings outstretched with a shield, a bundle of arrows, and an olive branch in its talons.
The sole piece minted in 1849 resides at the Smithsonian Institution.
