Description
1938 Indian model 438 four . Matching #’s Mi titleIf you haven’t ridden one , I can tell you that if you owned this bike in 1938 , you were riding a motorcycle far more smooth , faster and more elegant than anything else on the road . It was years ahead of its time , so smooth , so easy to start , so effortless to ride . The very best of the very best .
1938 and 39 fours were the lightest , had the best motor and best styling . They are the fastest and best handling. This may sound a little arrogant but it’s a long time known fact . If you want the best this is it.
This bike has undergone a complete and detailed proper restoration . On an original and matching numbers bike. # DCH441
No expense has been spared .
It has beautiful paint , gleaming chrome and other details often over looked on most restorations . It is truly a concourse restoration.
The engine runs smoothly , starts instantly and was restored by George Yarocki .
Brakes , lights horn , everything works .
It even has a rare set of dummy air valve covers on the inner tubes . These were used to protect police bikes from having their tires deflated .
It also has a interior speedo light . That is not a crack in the speedo face , it is access for the speedo light !
The wiring is beautiful . A close examination shows that this bike has been restored to a very high standard . Check the photos. Decide for your self .
It was restored a few years ago and has remained on careful display by the previous owner and then Myself as part of my collection.
It has been started occasionally and I have driven it a few miles .It has only125 miles since the restoration .
In the last month , I have drained and flushed the gas tank and petcocks , rebuilt the carb with all New gaskets and float . Installed a brand new lithium battery . New condenser , cleaned the points , distributor cap and rotor .
The tank is clean , petcocks
flow perfectly , float level correct . The gas tank has been filled with fresh rec gas .
Little of this was needed , but I wanted to insure it was in the best of condition .
The cases on this motor were damaged , decades ago, which is very Common on fours as they were driven long and hard , most having at one time been police bikes .
These cases have been expertly repaired and the welds hardly apparent . The entire engine has been restored to like new or better condition .
I have owned a number of Indian fours they are wonderful to ride and have such distinctive looks , this is the best one I have had and one of the best I’ve ever seen .
I don’t often take them to shows but this bike has taken first place in the two it was entered in .
I’m 74 and have a hip problem , I can’t kick start any bike these days . Even though this four takes very little effort to kick , I just can’t . It is hard for me to part with it , but this and a number of my other bikes are going up for sale . Its that time for me .
The new owner of this bike will have acquired a real gem .
